Building a Foundation for Life!
At St. Stephen Lutheran School, education takes its direction from the Holy Scriptures, which reveal God's eternal presence in all creation, man's sinful nature and need for redemption from sin, the grace God has shown to us in our Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit's work of renewing and creating in us a new person in God's image. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
St. Stephen Lutheran School (SSLS) seeks to glorify God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We teach the Bible as the very Word of God. We teach the gospel of Jesus Christ as the power of God for salvation from sin and the way to eternal life. All students are taught the Bible as the history of God's work of redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ. Our curriculum includes Biblical doctrine in order that students might be firmly established in the truth. We rely on the Holy Spirit to create faith in the Savior, and to enable students to put this faith into practice.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! … We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us." 2 Corinthians 5:17, 20
SSLS is committed to building Christian character and to fostering service, evangelism, and discipleship skills. Our aim is to identify and develop God-given talents, gifts, and abilities. Our curriculum and daily school life are structured to provide a nurturing environment for personal Christian growth.
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17
SSLS maintains high scholastic standards in all subjects. Our curriculum review process ensures that we meet or exceed the academic requirements for general education set down by the State of California. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive education, with a continuing commitment to academic excellence and careful regard for the individual's learning potential. We are pleased to offer flexibility to individual students based not only on grade level, but also on capability.

“St. Stephen Lutheran School has been an absolute godsend for our family. Our son has been attending SSLS starting in kindergarten. (Note: our older children have attended Monta Loma CEL program, Graham Middle School and Mountain View High School and my wife is a former educator.)
We evaluated pretty much every public and private school in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Los Altos. SSLS attracted us for a number of reasons:
- a "small" school environment — only 6 children in my son's class. He has absolutely thrived academically with ample attention to his needs.
- offers tremendous enrichment opportunities — art, PE, music, field trips in addition to lots of reading (he's reading books at a 2nd to 3rd grade level after only half a year of kindergarten), writing and math.
- a supportive and values-oriented Christian environment. While neither my wife nor I are Lutheran, we've welcomed the teachings our son has been exposed to.
- mixed age environment — allows my son to play actively with older children who are bright, engaging, sweet and responsible older role models for him. He lives for playing ball with the older boys.
The best part of SSLS is the outcome to date — we have a child that is balanced, well-adjusted, bright, curious, engaged, healthy and loves going to school every day. For his 6th birthday party, he invited every single student (from his fellow kindergarteners to 8th graders). This was a wonderful reflection of how welcome he feels about the other kids in his school and how engaged he is as part of special community. SSLS has contributed immensely to our son's growth and has become an integral extension of our family.
While the school might not be for everyone, those looking for a unique environment would be well served to evaluate it as an option for their child.”
